What a great day to do martial arts with friends!!!!
On Saturday, we proudly hosted the Interschool Tournament between Mireu and Guardian at our Coralville dojang, to celebrate our community's commitment to martial arts excellence!

This year marked our third consecutive year of partnering with the esteemed Guardian Institute, an organization that shares our passion for promoting the values of discipline, respect, and perseverance through martial arts. The event featured a diverse array of competitions and activities that catered to participants of all ages and skill levels, ensuring that everyone had the opportunity to showcase their hard work and dedication.
Grandmaster Ms. Lonnie Matthews, the President of the Iowa Kukkiwon, opened the event by declaring Master Wyatt Sebers the new Vice President of the Iowa Kukkiwon.
The tournament was packed with exciting events throughout the day, including:
Poomsae - a series of predetermined movements that demonstrate technique and form.
Taekwondo and KumDo sparring - where competitors faced off in friendly yet intense matches to test their skills and strategies.
Power Breaking - where participants aimed to break boards with precision and strength.
Creative Breaking - where competitors demonstrated their innovation and flair in breaking techniques.
Weapons - which highlighted the artistry and discipline of martial arts weaponry.
Jumping High - where students attempted to push their limits by flying in the air aiming to break an almost unreachable board. This event is always thrilling!!

Throughout the day, students, families, and friends circulated in and out of the dojang, creating a lively atmosphere filled with excitement and camaraderie. The energy was high as supporters cheered for their favorite competitors, fostering a sense of community and encouragement among participants. In between events, attendees took the opportunity to celebrate the achievements of their peers, share stories, and enjoy refreshments from our well-stocked concessions. The snack area was bustling with activity, offering a variety of treats that kept everyone energized and ready for the next round of competitions.
This year's tournament not only served as a platform for showcasing martial arts skills but also as a celebration of the strong bonds formed within our community. The collaboration with Guardian Institute has enriched our event, bringing together a diverse group of martial artists who share a common goal: to grow, learn, and excel in their practice.
As the day unfolded, it became clear that the Interschool Tournament is more than just a competition; it is a testament to the dedication, hard work, and spirit of all those involved.
We look forward to building on this success in the years to come, continuing to nurture talent and foster a love for martial arts in our community.
Special thanks to Guardian parents and Allison Offerman for sharing pictures of the event!
